Filming

Over the past week me and my group have begun filming for our film trailer entitled "The Exchange". We wanted to make sure that all props and what people were wearing within the clip was all the same to run with the continuity throughout the film trailer We began by filming all of scenes that we wanted in the house that we needed. The house scenes consisted of the ex government agent and wife spending time at home with him stating that he has quit his job to spend the rest of their lives together. The wife is then seen to be getting ready for a night out but there is a knock at the door when she gets kidnapped. We wanted to focus on this kidnapping to make it realistic and thrilling. We concentrated on how the wife would feel during this kidnapping. We had the wife dragged through the house and out to be taken away. The husband returns home to find that there has been a struggle with blood on the floor and shouts for his wife. He then runs out the house to find the witness when he asked if she has seen anything.

In my group we also filmed the exchange between the kidnappers and the husband with the witness. The witness realises that the wife is not at the scene and quickly shouts this out. This is when a fight breaks out between the husband and the kidnapper which results in the husband and witness running away from gun shots. At the moment this is as far as the filming has commenced, with filming in London and end of the story to be filmed next week.

Planning Script & Storyboarding

In this session, we continued to plan the script that the production will follow. The script we planned concentrated on what we specifically wanted the audience to understand or know from each particular scene. We wanted to make sure that the audience understood what was going on without giving away too much information as there would be a twist to the story at the end.

We also began to construct the storyboard which we would plan each individual scene  that would be appearing in the A2 Production.

  • During the first scene that we planned we wanted to show the main character (the ex government agent) and his wife happily at home stating that he has quit his job in order to stay and enjoy his life with her. (This will be the over the shoulder camera shot focusing on the main character)
  • In the second scene we wanted to have the wife smiling  (also with the over the shoulder shot) to the news which the husband has just told her.
  • In the third scene we wanted the wife to walk down the stairs (medium shot) and begin to get ready to go out when there is a knock on the door. (medium close up)
  • In the fourth scene you will see the wife start walking to the door to answer it (medium shot)
  • In the fifth scene, the wife will answer the door and began to scream (Medium Shot)
  • The next scene will see these people at the door all dressed in black. (Medium Shot)
  • In the seventh scene we wanted the wife to begin running back in the house with eventually the kidnappers capturing her (medium shot)
  • The next scene will see the wife being dragged on the floor out the door (Low Angle Shot & Point of View)
  • In the next scene you will see the wife being dragged outside her house by the kidnappers (medium shot)
  • In the next scene you will see that the kidnapper rings the husband in order to ask for an exchange for his wife. The kidnapper will be demanding money and government papers (close up)
  • In the next scene we will see the kidnapper and the husband with the witness meet up in an industrial estate
  • The husband passes over the money and papers but the witness realises that the wife is not even there (close up)
  • A fight breaks out between the kidnapper and the husband , with the husband eventually running away with the witness (over the shoulder & Long shot)
  • The couple are seen running in all different locations (medium long shot)
  • The wife is in a room where the kidnappers are keeping her stating that her husband will come for her (Close up)
  • The husband along with the witness eventually find the wife
  • The wife is holding a gun which she first points at the kidnappers but then points at her husband
  • The shot cuts to black and there is a gunshot
Me and my group also worked on the script which we planned in detail to make sure that we gave the audience the right impression of this film. We also wanted to make sure that the dialogue gave out a certain message to the audience without giving away too much of the whole story. This would hopefully make them want to watch the film after they have seen the film trailer. Here is the script that we have planned out ;

Analysis of Thriller Film Trailers

The first film trailer I will be analysing will be called " The Borne Ultimatum" with the cast of Matt Damon Julia Stiles David Strathairn Scott Glenn Édgar Ramírez Albert Finney Joan Allen Joey Ansah Colin Stinton. The film has been distributed by Universal Pictures. The tile of this movie is an important selling point because it creates a sense of mystery because of the word Ultimatum. This meaning that the person in the film has a choice to go down two different routes. Again in this film trailer the title of the movie is placed at the end , coninsiding with the last 4 movie trailers I have analysed.

There are many elements within the film trailer that make me understand that this film is of action/thriller genre. First of all the dialogue that is used in the clip clearly emphasisies that the genre of the clip is action/thriller because the actors are always on the move talking about how they need to retrace their steps to find something. The last thing I would like to talk about is the fact that all of editing is faced paced meaning that it will give the audience a thrill because of all the action that is happening within the movie.

During this film trailer the actors are not emphasised or highlighted. The trailer only contains the various amount of clips that tell the story for the audience. The film trailer only concentrates on the main actors that I have listed above and doesn't highlight anyone else. The film trailer again doesn't have any recommendations for any other films

There is additional information which is conveyed by the use of music , sound and dialogue in the movie trailer. The music within the trailer is faced pace giving the sense of exicitment or thrilling nature of the film. The music ties in with the editing and dialogue giving the sense that everything is happening at such a face pace that no everything is able to keep up. There is no voice over during this film trailer. This is not important because the music that is used during the trailer portrays the sense of mystery surrounding the movie.

The use of the mise en scene , camera angles and editing within this film trailer is important to target the target audience. The editing plays a huge part within the film trailer as it is extremely fast paced because of the amount of action which is taking place. This would then relate to the genre of the movie clip. The camera work also plays an important part in the movie as it concentrates on only a few charaters and the shots that have been chosen , have been chosen carefully to portray a message. The mise en scene does seem to be extremely good with the smart dress wear appealing to a more mature audience in nature

The next film that I will be analysing is called "The Adjustment Bureau" which has a cast list of Matt Damon
Emily Blunt. It is distributed by Universal Pictures. The title again is an important selling point of the film because it gives an impression that something is going to be adjusted in some way shape or form to someone or something. The title again is only placed at the end of the clip which is becoming more of a pattern through the films that I have analysed.

The elements within the film trailer that help to recognise the genre of the film are that of people that are stopping time and adjusting what will happen. These people are shown to control time and control what happens to each individual in the film. The trailer clearly shows that Matt Damons life is being adjusted but he is trying to prevent this from happening.
During this film trailer the actors are not emphasised or highlighted. The trailer only contains the various amount of clips that tell the story for the audience. The film trailer only concentrates on the main actors that I have listed above and doesn't highlight anyone else. The film trailer again doesn't have any recommendations for any other films.

There are huge amounts of information which are conveyed through the use of sound, music & dialogue. The music within the trailer is extremely important because it portrays the tone of the film. At certain points the music may be slow and calm and at other points it may be fast and loud. This may be simblising the fact that at certain points within the film the actors are happy and in others the mood might be changing. This gives that sense of mystery. There is no voice over during this film trailer. This is not important because the music that is used during the trailer portrays the sense of mystery surrounding the movie.

The use of the mise en scene , camera angles and editing within this film trailer is important to target the target audience. The trailer at some points had slow edits with long shots and at others extremely quick edits with quick shots. This relates to the genre of the movie which is a mystery within a science fiction. The camera work is extremely well done and has had a lot of attention for the audience to gain the message that the director wants them too. The sound/music used within the clip may appeal to a wide audience such as a young teenager and above.

The final film I will be analysing is "The Strangers" which is 2 minutes 10 seconds long. The strangers stars Liv Tyler Scott Speedman as the main 2 characters. The title is an important aspect in the selling point of this film as it gives the impression that the film will be a horror. It gives the impression that at some point within this film people will be involved with strangers. The title of the movie is only shown at the end of the trailer to give a sense of suspense. The elements within the trailer that show that it is a horror movie is a clear use of weapons such as the knifes used to protect the actors with the masks that are being worn by the so called "strangers". The clear worry in the tone of the characters voices are a clear indication that they are scared/worried about something.

It is important that from the distributers point of view that the trailer highlights the genre of the film because they want to attract a certain audience. They want the audience to understand what the film is going to be about before they go and see it. The distributors have made a film for a certain purpose for a certain audience. The distributor of the film in mind is "Rogue" with the logo stating "Rogue Pictures".

The actors that have been used within the trailer by stating their name during the trailer and at the very end of the trailer. They have not been promoted in anyway, but however having only the names of the actors shown like this means that peoples disbelief is suspended. The trailer doesn't highlight any other person and also hasn't incorporated any comments at the end of the trailer.

The background music within this movie trailer plays an important part in the making of the genre of the film. The music conveys a sense of the unexpected along with a sense of whats a going to happen next. The music is there to make the audience scared whilst suspending their disbelief. The dialogue throughout the trailer also plays an important part in the trailer. The dialogue gives the audience an impression that the couple that are involved in this film are scared and do not know what is coming next. It conveys a sense of worry.

In this film trailer there is no voice over as the images, music and dialogue are used to convey the sense of horror. The film doesn't loose anything from not having a voice over because I feel that a voice over would ruin the sense or tone that the trailer conveys. The use of the mise en scene , camera angles and editing within this film trailer is important to target the target audience. The pace of the editing is extremely fast meaning that it is linked with the genre of the film which is horror. The fats pace editing it trying to portray a sense of worry. One last point that I would like to make is that the soundtrack does match the editing which is extremely good. This means that the films genre can be created through these means.

A2 Media Production Proposal

Me and my fellow group members have decided to create a film trailer for our A2 media production work. This film trailer will focus on the genre of “thriller”. The title of the film will be “The Exchange” which will focus on Thomas Kingsley who is an ex-government agent who discovers that his wife Rachael Kingsley has been mysteriously kidnapped. The film trailer will focus on how this ex-government agent can get his wife back with the help of a witness. The cast in the trailer will be me and all the members in my group including extras from outside the group. In my group I will be playing the main character Thomas Kingsley the ex-government agent , Torio playing Rachael Kingsley who is the wife of Thomas Kingsley, Tesera playing Lena the key eye witness of the kidnap and Lewis playing the kidnapper along with a number of extras which will be involved with the kidnap of the wife .

In my group we have decided to have a variation in the locations that we want to film the trailer in. Mise en scene is important to us and we want to make sure that we focus on this with the locations. We will be filming firstly around a family home which will set the scene for the trailer. We have also decided to film some of our scenes around London in order to make the film look like we have a bigger budget than we actually do. Lastly, we will be filming in an industrial estate which will be the main focus of the film. The industrial estate is a good place to film because of the quietness along with its derelict look. The soundtrack on the film trailer will have to start with a slow pace and eventually building up in terms of tension for the fast edits at the end of the trailer.

Start Of A2 Production

In today's lesson, I was told all about the A2 production work and what was needed to be produced. Me and 3 other people within my class decided that we would work together and create a film trailer. We decided that the film trailer will be based on a thriller as a horror is too overused from previous work. The thriller will be based on an ex government agent who has quit his job to lead a new life with his wife. The wife however gets kidnapped but she has set it up herself s she doesn't want to be with the husband. The kidnappers ask for money and government security details. As these are passed over a fight breaks out and the government agent managers to find his wife. At the end of the trailer we will cut to black after the wife has a gun first pointing at the kidnapper but turns to her husband. As a group we began to storyboard the scenes that we are going to film along with the shot distances and the length of the shot. We hope for the film trailer to be 2 minutes long and will be entitled “The Exchange". We started to plan the script for the film trailer but will continue with this in the next lesson.

Analysis Of Film Trailers

A film trailer is used to promote a film and influence an audience into wanting to go and see a film. I will be analysing 5 film trailers which will be of genre ; Horror, Romantic Comedy, Adventure, Science Fiction and Action/Thriller.

The first film trailer I will be analysing will be is "The Strangers" which is 2 minutes 10 seconds long.

The next film trailer that I will be analysing will be "The Proposal" which is 3 minutes long. In this movie the actors that star are Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. The title is again an important aspect as a selling point of the movie. The title gives the impression that some sort of marriage will be taking place throughout this film. Again the title of the movie is only shown at the end of the trailer with the names of the actors shown all the way through in Little snippets. The elements throughout the trailer that make you recognise the genre are the clear attention that is brought to dialogue that is shown. The trailer shows the couple working together and ending up getting together to stop Sandra's deportation.

The stars within this trailer have only been named during the trailer when their characters are first introduced so people know who they are. During the trailer no other individual or person is mentioned or highlighted. During the length of the trailer, there are no recommendations that have been made.  The sound, music and dialogue also plays an important part within the film trailer. The tone of the music emphases that it is going to be at some points slow and romantic and at others there may be fast and problematic. The dialogue suggest that the marriage is only taking place to save Sandra from deportation.

The trailer doesn't have a voice over which is a good. This is because the clips that have been carefully selected within the trailer tell the audience the whole story. The voice over would just be unnecessary because it would ruin what the clips are showing the audience.  The use of the mise en scene , camera angles and editing within this film trailer is important to target the target audience. The mise en scene seems to be aimed at a older sort of audience because of some of the scenes which have been included. During this film trailer the camera angles have been selected carefully in order to create a clear understanding of the message the director wants to get across.

The third film trailer that I will be analysing is called " Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2" which stars Daniel Radcliffe , Emma Watson , Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman. The title is a key selling point because it states that there is a second part to the film in mind which of course is the last film of the series. The title is only placed at the end of the trailer.

There are many elements within the trailer that help you identify the genre which the film is. The elements such as the non realistic element of the wands that have been used within the film series giving the impression that the film is an adventure. Also other elements such as the continued fighting that is seen throughout the film trailer with people running in all directions giving the movie the sense of adventure. The distributor of this film are the Warner Brothers.

The dialogue, music and sound is again important in this film trailer. The music gives the impression that everything within the movie is fast paced and happening at every minute ; like nothing is every ending. The dialogue really emphasises the main part of the story in which only one person can live forever. The tone in which this dialogue is spoken also emphasises a sense of mystery. There is no voice over during this film trailer , but however , the dialogue which is spoken through the clip acts as the voice over throughout the trailer.

The use of the mise en scene , camera angles and editing within this film trailer is important to target the target audience. The editing throughout the clip varies from slow at the beginning of the trailer and extremely fast or choppy at the end of the clip. This gives me the impression that the film will have a lot of action within with an audience of a lower age group. The mise en scene during the clip is extremely good because it portrays and fits in with the genre of the piece. The language is also easy to understand which is why I believe that it has been targeted to a younger audience.

The fourth film that I will be analysing is called "The Adjustment Bureau" which has a cast list of Matt Damon

The camera work is extremely well done and has had a lot of attention for the audience to gain the message that the director wants them too. The sound/music used within the clip may appeal to a wide audience such as a young teenager and above.

The very last film trailer I will be analysing will be called " The Borne Ultimatum" with the cast of Matt Damon Julia Stiles David Strathairn Scott Glenn Édgar Ramírez Albert Finney Joan Allen Joey Ansah Colin Stinton. The film has been distributed by Universal Pictures. The tile of this movie is an important selling point because it creates a sense of mystery because of the word Ultimatum. The mise en scene does seem to be extremely good with the smart dress wear appealing to a more mature audience in nature.

Overall, I feel that from the analysis of the 5 movie trailers above I have gained a lot of understanding of the thought that goes behind the trailer in order for the audience to clearly understand immediately what the genre of the movie is along with how the voice overs and the movies media language are created in order to appeal to a certain audience.
